Mullin has built a long-term partnership with Louisiana State University through work that spans both complex landscape construction and ongoing property maintenance. At the LSU Science Complex and surrounding residential halls, Mullin has demonstrated the ability to execute precise installations while operating on an active university campus, then transition seamlessly into high-quality maintenance that protects the investment over time.
Mullin played a key role in the landscape installation during Phase 3 of the LSU Science Complex project. The team installed hardscape pavers and a wire trellis system that contribute to the outdoor functionality and visual identity of the complex.
This work took place while LSU was fully operational, requiring careful coordination with campus schedules, pedestrian traffic, and restricted access points. Tight site conditions made staging materials on-site difficult, so Mullin implemented an off-site laydown yard to store and organize materials. The team coordinated deliveries and pickups between the laydown yard and the job site to keep work progressing smoothly without disrupting campus activity.
Despite the logistical constraints of working within an active university environment, Mullin completed its scope on schedule with minimal punch list items from the architect and owner. The project was delivered safely and efficiently, demonstrating the team’s ability to manage complex installations in highly active environments.
Following LSU’s recent renovations, Mullin continues to provide ongoing landscape maintenance for Azalea Hall and Camellia Hall. Weekly service visits extend beyond routine mowing and trimming. The team conducts detailed inspections of plant health, irrigation performance, and overall landscape conditions to ensure the property continues to perform as designed.
Water management is a critical focus due to the variety of plant material on site. Through proactive monitoring, Mullin has identified and treated disease issues in several trees before they could escalate into larger problems. The trees on this property are particularly susceptible to disease, requiring consistent oversight and carefully timed treatments to maintain long-term plant health.
The maintenance program also includes integrated pest management and fertilization services. By treating only what is necessary and applying solutions at the right time, Mullin helps LSU protect the investment made during recent renovations while maintaining a healthy, resilient landscape.
Maintaining landscapes at a large university presents challenges that go beyond typical commercial properties. Mullin’s crews must work around academic schedules, student activity, and campus parking restrictions while maintaining consistent service levels.
The team’s ability to operate within these constraints while maintaining a high standard of care has become a defining part of the partnership. Mullin approaches the site with what the client describes as “white glove” service, combining technical expertise with strong communication and attention to detail.
The LSU Science Complex installation and ongoing maintenance at Azalea and Camellia Halls illustrate Mullin’s ability to support a project through its entire lifecycle. From complex construction within tight site conditions to proactive maintenance that protects plant health and landscape performance, Mullin continues to serve LSU as a trusted partner on campus.
The client has expressed strong satisfaction not only with the quality of the work but also with the level of communication and responsiveness provided by the Mullin team. The success of this work has also helped open the door for additional projects across the LSU campus, reinforcing Mullin’s role as a reliable long-term partner for landscape construction and maintenance.
